SUSTO Returns Home for 21-song Show; Introduce New Song ‘Rock On’

in Concerts by

While SUSTO continues to introduce themselves to new fans nationwide (and internationally with a solo handful of gigs supporting Band of Horses), they have been household names in Charleston, SC, for a few years. Their last show in town was in February 2017 at the Music Farm, though as a regular follower of them locally and social media, it’s felt like more like three years. In 2016, SUSTO was still playing small bars despite having success with critics and getting some festival gigs. Then this year they did 15+ shows supporting the Lumineers, performed live stream sessions on Rolling Stone and Paste, played Hangout Fest, and returned home to play a large show at the Royal American parking lot last night.

Before most of the twenty-one songs SUSTO played (full set list here), Justin provided some background of what went into that song. Some of the highlights:

Acid Boys – “We didn’t have a lot of money and it was cheaper to buy a hit of acid than beer, so we’d take acid and drive around town on our bikes.”

Smoking Outside – “This is about smoking weed on your porch on Tuesdays.”

Drug Money – “This is for the guy on Line Street that kept slashing my tires.”

Rock On – “This is a brand, new song about being on tour and missing your home and friends.”

SUSTO is back on the road 10/24/17 in New York and will be touring to the West coast and back through the end of December.
