De La Soul’s New Single, ‘Pain,’ featuring Snoop Dogg, Is Worthy of your iPod

in Reviews/The Latest by

De La Soul has and will always be one of my favorite hip hop bands. Their flowy, soft rhymes can have me head bobbing one second or singing at the top of my lungs the next.  Mega hits like “Buddy,” featuring Tribe Called Quest, and Me, Myself and I, are consistently on lists for the greatest hip hop songs of all time.

Their newest album, And The Anonymous Nobody, is their first album in their 40s and is available for pre-order now. It was interestingly self-funded with Kickstarter yet includes a long list of stars:

The record itself, like all their releases this side of the millennium, will feature a slew of guests, including, Damon Albarn, Usher, Snoop Dogg, Jill Scott, Pete Rock, Estelle, Roc Marciano and Justin Hawkins from the Darkness.

Pain is one of those songs three seconds in you know it’s a winner. The Sly and the Family Stone type chorus introduces the song “Pain will make you better, Tell me how you feel” and then fades back to the quintessential, funky, speedy De La Soul rhymes. The legends still got it.
